Daniel Island
This island town was recently recognized as a top community in the southeast. A newly developed town, Daniel Island is located in Berkeley County and is just a few minutes drive from the heart of Mt. Pleasant. The island is 4000 acres of well-planned community living. The developers have taken great care to preserve the natural beauty of the island while providing for the needs of those that choose to live here.
Parks are plentiful here with gardens and natural areas for families to enjoy one another out of doors. Blackbaud, with over 700 employees is the largest provider of software and services designed specifically for non-profit organizations, calls Daniel Island it’s home. The schools here are some of the best in the Charleston area. The island is self-sufficient and many find there is really no need to leave.
Daniel Island is home to the Charleston Battery, the areas very own professional soccer team. Each year, the island hosts the Family Circle Cup Tennis Tournament. There are also concerts and cultural events held in the stadium throughout the year. The Club at Daniel Island holds events for it’s members and coordinates activities for both children and adults. Daniel Island is a growing community with strong family values.
One of the Island's Own
Philip Simmons, one of Charleston’s most well-known artist and craftsmen, was born on Daniel Island where he spent the first eight years of his life as a child. It was a magical time for Simmons and he still has fond memories of it. “I thought the Island was the most beautiful place in the world. I still do.” His decorative ironworks can be found throughout Charleston and are on display in some of the top museums in the country including The National Museum of American History and The Smithsonian.
